DREAMS OF FALLING trio with John Shand, Rebecca Daniel and Leigh Birkett
Dreams of Falling magically combines music with poetry and prose, mainly penned by Walkley Award-winning writer John Shand (best known as The Sydney Morning Herald’s long-term theatre and music critic). John (spoken word, percussion) is joined by Rebecca Daniel (1741 violin, viola, vocals) and Leigh Birkett (guitars). The diaphanous music, ranging from songs sung by Rebecca to Celtic folk, improvised dialogues and soundscapes, is sometimes an end in itself,  while more often framing the poetry and prose (also by Dylan Thomas, Kim Addonizio, Carol Major and others). The pieces are variously meditative, searing, humorous, erotic or surreal, creating a series of sonic dreams in which to forget a more prosaic world.

ARTS OUTWEST PRESENTS
WHILE THE WORLD WAITS
The launch includes a half hour session of original music by Adam Kerezy – who features on the original While the World Waits music album with a track ‘Waiting Game’, bringing together art from the eastern and far western side of the Arts OutWest region.
In 2021, Arts OutWest commissioned 15 central west songwriters across 11 local government areas in the region to each write a song reflecting their experiences of 2020 and created a compilation album of original music. It was titled While the World Waits.

We heard what it felt like. Now show me what it feels like…

In 2022, artists from across the Central West have been asked to use the CD as a jumping off point and inspiration for new work. This unique opportunity for regional visual artists to create artworks in response to regional music has been a labour of love for Arts OutWest. While the World Waits Exhibition is a curated exhibition in which selected artists each respond to one or more tracks, title or words on the album.

The exhibition will showcase work from across all mediums. You will see painting, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, moving image, animation, photography, glass and textiles.

John Stuart (seven-string guitar) and James Greening (trombone, pocket trumpet and occasional flugelhorn) are key figures in Sydney’s music scene. Since James relocated to the Blue Mountains a few years ago, they taken the opportunity to play together as a duo, making music that is at once free-flowing and intensely melodic.

John Stuart is a master of the seven-string guitar. The extra string allows the driving bass lines that fuel the swing of this impressive duo, generating a distinctive sound. Sparkling single-string lines and delicate harmonic shadings make John’s impressive technical expertise seem effortless.
James Greening is rightly regarded as one of Australia’s premier jazz musicians. His list of credits is enormous, including the Australian Art Orchestra, the Catholics, and the Lah Lahs. This concert at Gang Gang Gallery offers a rare opportunity to hear James in such an intimate setting.
On Saturday March 13 at the Gang Gang Gallery they will be playing music drawn from the great American song book, along with some of the tunes that John wrote with the late Neill Duncan.
