John Stuart (seven-string guitar) and James Greening (trombone, pocket trumpet and occasional flugelhorn) are key figures in Sydney’s music scene. Since James relocated to the Blue Mountains a few years ago, they taken the opportunity to play together as a duo, making music that is at once free-flowing and intensely melodic.
John Stuart is a master of the seven-string guitar. The extra string allows the driving bass lines that fuel the swing of this impressive duo, generating a distinctive sound. Sparkling single-string lines and delicate harmonic shadings make John’s impressive technical expertise seem effortless.
James Greening is rightly regarded as one of Australia’s premier jazz musicians. His list of credits is enormous, including the Australian Art Orchestra, the Catholics, and the Lah Lahs. This concert at Gang Gang Gallery offers a rare opportunity to hear James in such an intimate setting.
On Saturday March 13 at the Gang Gang Gallery they will be playing music drawn from the great American song book, along with some of the tunes that John wrote with the late Neill Duncan.
